The number of newly registered cars in the European Union countries in the period January–April 2025 decreased to 3,640,211 vehicles, representing a decline of 1.2% compared to the same period in 2024. This is according to the latest data from the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA), published on Tuesday.
In April 2025, 4,008 new cars were registered in Bulgaria — a 4.6% decrease compared to April 2024, when the number was 4,200. The largest share was held by petrol-powered cars (3,222 units), followed by diesel cars (427). Among electrified vehicles, 176 hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) were registered, along with 144 fully battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and 38 plug-in hybrids (PHEVs).
For the period January–April 2025, the total number of newly registered vehicles in the country reached 15,615, marking a 0.6% year-on-year decrease. Sales of petrol cars totaled 12,549 (a 0.7% decrease), while diesel cars dropped to 1,777 (a 12.7% decline). The segment of fully electric BEVs rose to 640 vehicles, an increase of 19.2%. Hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) reached 478, which represents a significant growth of 65.4%. However, plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) shrank to 148 units, marking an 11.9% annual decline.
