The government decided Wednesday that the State will provide BGN 2,004,726 in compensations to parents affected by a shortage of spots in state or municipal kindergartens, said the government press office. Compensations will be paid for 1,977 children in Sofia, 51 in Varna, seven in Plovdiv and one in the Rhodope Municipality near Plovdiv.

The compensations are to be paid for the period from January 1 to February 28, 2025, and will be transferred to the budgets of the respective municipalities.

They are available for parents who have incurred costs for child care and education of children between the age of three to grade one, who have not been admitted to state or municipal kindergartens or schools where they have applied, due to low spot availability, and the local authorities in the municipality of residence have not offered an alternative.
