The MECh parliamentary group gave There is Such a People (TISP) and its leader Slavi Trifonov 24 hours before the vote of the motion of no confidence to reconsider and support it. This is what the Floor Leader of MECh, Kiril Veselinski, said from the parliamentary rostrum during the debate of the second no-confidence vote against the Cabinet of Rosen Zhelyazkov over corruption in various spheres.
To salute the MPs, Veselinski played a Slavi Trifonov music video on his mobile from the parliamentary rostrum, but was silenced by the microphones because he had overused the allotted speaking time. This did not prevent the MP to remain standing on the rostrum, pointing his mobile to the microphones.
Before the musical salute, Veselinski managed to run a recording of TISP Floor Leader, Toshko Yordanov, from December 2023, in which Yordanov says that Boyko Borissov has not even discarded his party ticket [Borissov was a member of the Bulgarian Communist Party and allegedly left his job as a firefighter at the Interior Ministry, because he refused to be depoliticized] and that there is an assemblage [a term used with a negative connotation to describe the previous parliamentary majority between GERB-UDF, Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria and the Movement for Rights and Freedoms] between communists and the mafia.
“Slavi Trifonov joined this assemblage together the Delyan Peevski, the former representative of Multigroup [a controversial private conglomerate of insurance companies, banks, trading firms, oil, casino-gambling and private security firms] who is the godfather of this mafia,” Veselinski said and insisted that Trifonov had added himself to this assemblage in his traditional role – as “a servant of the mafia”.
"Toshko Yordanov, Mr. Trifonov, please, if there is a drop of dignity left in you, as a name in Bulgarian show business, or even journalism, reconsider your stand today, put on your black T-shirt and leather jacket [referring to Trifonov’s style of dressing], go out and make a recording in your dark room [referring to Trifonov’s style of speaking by recording and posting video addresses to his supporters on Facebook], let's put an end to this agony," Veselinski appealed.
"Do it this time not for [North] Macedonia, Mr. Trifonov [TISP party leader Slavi Trifonov on June 8, 2022 annonced he was withdrawing his party from Bulgaria’s quadripartite governing coalition that had been in office since December 2021, citing issues with North Macedonia] do it for Bulgaria, so that we can rescue Bulgaria and the Bulgarian people from the corruption that has seized everything. You have 24 hours, Mr. Trifonov, show valour and conscience. In the meantime, I will also salute you with one of your songs, to melodramatically bring you back to your music," Veselinski added.
At the beginning of his speech, Veselinski pointed out that "corruption is a bullet in the head of this government." "Corruption on the left, corruption in the center, corruption on the right and Delyan Peevski controls parliament. The godfather of corruption is called Delyan Peevski. And you know what, your coalition partner says so," Veselinski added, then played a recording from his phone of a statement by Stanislav Balabanov from TISP from December 6, 2024, in which he states that Delyan Peevski owns the 51st parliament. Veselinski asked where Toshko Yordanov was, where MPs from TISP were, then assumed that they were hiding, or recording something for TikTok in their room.
Earlier in the day, presenting the reasons for moving for a no-confidence motion against the Cabinet, MECh leader Radostin Vasilev said that it has shown consistent reluctance to combat corruption. Vasilev was the first to speak during the debate on what is the second motion for no-confidence against the Cabinet of Rosen Zhelyazkov over corruption.
