Turkiye is closely and carefully monitoring developments in Iran and the region amid retaliatory Iranian attacks following initial strikes by Israel and the United States.

A meeting was held at the Turkish Ministry of Interior, chaired by Interior Minister Mustafa Ciftci, focusing on issues related to strengthening security along Turkiye's border with Iran.

"Turkiye maintains an uncompromising position regarding border security, public order, and migration management. At the same time, developments are being monitored moment by moment, and all units are on heightened alert and continue to carry out their duties," the Turkish interior minister told TRTHaber.

The meeting discussed measures to maintain Turkiye's border security at the highest level, as well as to take additional steps against irregular migration flows. Scenarios to be implemented in crisis situations were also reviewed, with emphasis placed on the need to strengthen inter-institutional coordination.

Developments in the region have also increased tensions in countries neighboring Iran, including Turkiye, the Haberler website notes. Turkiye shares a 534-kilometre land border with Iran.

Meanwhile, the Disinformation Combat Centre at the Communications Directorate of the Turkish Presidency denied claims circulating on social media about the disposal of 80,000 mines along the border with Iran.

"Demining operations carried out along the Turkish-Iranian border are activities planned within the framework of international obligations and are aimed not at weakening border security, but rather at increasing its effectiveness through modern security systems," the Directorate said in a statement posted on its profile on the social media platform NSosyal.
