At a forum here on Tuesday, MEPs and experts discussed the future of energy security in the EU and Bulgaria's experience. The conference was organised at the European Parliament by Tsvetelina Penkova MEP of the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats.

The forum was unveiled by Penkova. She noted that Bulgaria can be a key factor for energy connectivity in the region. "We need the cheapest and most secure energy source for the future," she said, adding that nuclear energy meets that goal.

Participating in the forum were key representatives of the largest industrial, energy and sectoral organisations from Bulgaria and Europe, as well as diplomats, MEPs, unionists, scientists, representatives of the non-governmental sector and experts from the European Commission.

The discussions focused on Bulgaria's key role in the development of European energy industrial policies and their implementation in the economy. Also on the agenda was the development of nuclear energy as a key baseload power for the EU, the role of renewable energy sources and the need to improve the connectivity of electricity networks in the EU. The conference also focused on the EU's re-industrialization plan, the key importance of strategic raw materials in Bulgaria and the EU, and the provision and training of quality personnel.
