The 34th Bulgarian Antarctic Expedition was the most successful and the largest to date, said Prof. Christo Pimpirev, chairman of the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute and leader of Bulgaria’s expeditions to Antarctica, during the opening of a reporting camp of the polar researchers held in Aheloy.

He said that the conference includes both scientists and naval officers, without whom the journey would not have been as successful. “We are a very good blend of scientists and sailors,” Prof. Pimpirev said.

He noted that Antarctica is a platform for specialists from all fields of science. According to him, however, the Antarctic belongs to everyone.

There, scientific projects are carried out by researchers, but there are also artists who help bring Antarctica closer to the public, Prof. Pimpirev said. He added that on Monday, June 8, an exhibition featuring 90 photographs from the 34th expedition will be opened in front of the building of the Bulgarian National Radio.

The chairman of the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute also highlighted the cooperation of Bulgarian polar researchers with international partners.

In his remarks at the opening of the forum, Prof. Pimpirev expressed hope that the upcoming 35th expedition, which will also be the fifth voyage of the research vessel Sv. Sv. Kiril I Metodii, will be even more successful and will once again prove that Bulgarians are a maritime nation.
