The documentary 49 172 about the rescue of Bulgarian Jews during the Second World War was screened at Copenhagen's Cinemateket on September 13, the Bulgarian Embassy in Denmark said in a Facebook post on Thursday. The event was initiated by the Embassy on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the rescue, with the assistance of the Danish Film Institute, the Danish Jewish Museum and with the participation of the Israeli Embassy in Copenhagen.
With its specific topic, the film sparked big interest in the audience, which included representatives of the diplomatic corps, the Jewish and Bulgarian community in Denmark as well as pupils and students from Copenhagen. The screening was followed by an open discussion, led by Danish Jewish Museum Director Janus Møller Jensen and historian and journalist Simon Kratholm Ankjærgaard.
