Sailor Pavlin Nadvorni, 2022's winner of the Cor Caroli Transition Award for the best Bulgarian sailing achievement, set off from Marine Station to take part in a round-the-world circumnavigation for solo sailors, the Global Solo Challenge. Hundreds of Varna residents sent him off, and Mayor Ivan Portnih presented him with the city's flag to fly proudly during his voyage. The race is being held for the first time and is for production yachts.

The sailors will start from the Spanish port of La Coruna. The race route will be among the toughest. The sailors will sail past the Cape of Good Hope of Africa in an easterly direction, then past Cape Leeuwin (Australia), Cape Horn (South America) and back across the Atlantic, finishing again in La Coruna.

The Varna sailor and his yacht "Espresso Martini" will cover more than 26,000 nautical miles. The Bulgarian sailor's start from the Spanish port is scheduled for October 21. The voyage will be non-stop and without external assistance for the participants. The start of the sailors will be delayed for three months - the slowest yachts will go first and the fastest will sail last.

Pavlin Nadvorni said he expects his sailing to last about 150 days. He also said that boats from the USA, Italy, France, Belgium and Australia will take part in the race. Nadvorni added that there will be one more Bulgarian at the start, who will be racing for Italy.

"During the sailing I will be alone, but I will rely on satellite communication, emergency transmitters, weather forecasts", the sailor said. According to him, there is also a wave measurer on his boat, developed by the Technical University, the Institute of Oceanology and the Maritime Cluster and is being put on a boat for the first time. It will measure in real time the height, direction, period of waves and transmit the information via satellite.
