site.btaParliament Approves Rules of Procedure for Electing New Head of National Audit Office
Parliament Friday adopted rules of procedure for the nomination and election of a new head of the National Audit Office. The resolution passed on 108-39 votes and five abstentions.
The nominations will be made by the parliamentary groups to the Budget and Finance Committee through the Parliament Chair within seven days from the adoption of the rules of procedure.
The candidates will be vetted for affiliation with the communist-era special services.
The winning candidate will have to get the votes of more than a half of the MPs attending the sitting. If more than one candidate gets more than half of the votes, the winning candidate will be the one who is backed by the most MPs. When none of the candidates wins more than half of the votes, a new vote for the two candidates with the most votes, is taken and whoever is backed by over half of the votes will be elected. If nobody does that in the second vote, Parliament votes a new procedure.
The rules of procedure were supported by GERB-UDF, the Movement for Rights and Freedoms and BSP for Bulgaria. Vazrazhdane voted against and the votes of There Is Such a People were split between "against" and "abstained". Continue the Change - There Is Such a People were not in the plenary hall for the vote.
