Foreign Minister Receives Outgoing South Korean Ambassador

Foreign Minister Ivan Kondov Thursday received outgoing Ambassador Lee Ho-shik of the Republic of Korea for a protocol meeting, the Foreign Ministry said. Kondov thanked the Korean diplomat for his contribution to bilateral relations.

The sides noted the great potential for stepping up high-level political dialogue, economic contacts, cultural and educational exchanges. It was noted with satisfaction that Bulgarian-Korean relations are on the upgrade and that the opportunities for cooperation are increasing in the context of the EU-Republic of Korea Strategic Partnership and the EU Strategy for Cooperation in the Indo-Pacific.

The sides underlined trade and economic cooperation, with Kondov stressing the importance of attracting Korean investments to Bulgaria. The two concurred that the Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation should resume work.

The two diplomats reaffirmed Sofia's and Seoul's similar positions on important global and regional issues such as the aggression against Ukraine and the situation on the Korean Peninsula. Ambassador Lee thanked the Foreign Ministry for supporting his activity and pledged to continue working for the development of Bulgarian-Korean relations.
