The shared interests of Bulgaria and Croatia as EU partners and the benefits of developing close friendly relations were in the focus of Thursday's meeting between Prime Minister Galab Donev and Croatian President Zoran Milanovic, the government information service said.

Milanovic, who is paying an official visit to Sofia, and Donev reaffirmed their countries' interest in further building on their cooperation and in deepening their trade and economic ties. Donev said two-way trade had doubled in the last three years, which is a positive sign. In this context, it would be very useful to promote even closer contacts between businesses. Donev stressed the importance of cultural exchange, praising the agreement to extend the Programme for Cooperation in Education and Science.

The sides noted that the two countries' foreign policy priorities largely coincide. Donev stressed the two countries' responsibility for preserving peace and stability in the region.

"I believe that Bulgaria and Croatia will continue to contribute to building a stronger EU and to strengthen their close cooperation within the UN, NATO and other international and regional organizations," Donev said in conclusion.
