At the 2023 Junior and Cadet Fencing World Championships, which are taking place here, Bulgaria's junior women's sabre team on Monday placed third among 28 entrants and made history by winning the first medal in junior women's team fencing at world championships.

The team, consisting of Kalina Atanasova, Beloslava Ivanova, Ana Mihailova and Emma Neikova and coached by Ivailo Vodenov, won against France in their first direct elimination by 45-42, qualifying for the top four. The Bulgarians trailed their competitors until the last bout, but Neikova reversed a 32-40 score and led the team to victory.

In the 3rd place - 1st place final, the hosts lost to Italy, 18-45. In the losers' final, the Bulgarians won against Uzbekistan, 45-33, to achieve the greatest success in junior women's team fencing at world championships.
