Bulgarian music could be heard in the Old Town Square in downtown Prague on Friday, as students from the Czechia, Slovakia, and Bulgaria took part in an event celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Bulgarian school in Prague named after scholar Dr Petar Beron. The festival called Bulgaria Sings and Dances in the Heart of Prague saw locals, tourists and members of the Bulgarian community there join in traditional horo dances.

Earlier Friday, a two-hour concert dedicated to the school anniversary saw performances by more than 100 children from Prague, Bratislava, Sofia, Veliko Tarnovo, Sliven and Kotel. The concert, whose slogan was "75 years of Bulgarian spirit, culture and enlightenment in the heart of Europe" was attended by caretaker Minister of Education and Science Sasho Penov and, BTA Director General Kiril Valchev.

Of the three state schools that Bulgaria founded abroad 75 years ago, two are still functioning - Dr Petar Beron in Prague and another in Bratislava named after Bulgarian revolutionary and poet Hristo Botev. Some 130 Bulgarian children study in the school in Prague today.
