Caretaker Minister of Education and Science Sasho Penov told BTA on Friday that his Ministry and the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports will sign a cooperation agreement in education and science. Penov is in Prague to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Bulgarian school there named after scholar Dr Petar Beron.

Penov met with the Czech Minister of Education, Youth, and Sports, Prof. Vladimir Balas, earlier Friday. The Bulgarian Minister said: "The contracting parties between the two ministries agreed to develop cooperation in the field of education and science in the context of the EU membership of the two countries, with a view to their participation in European educational programmes and research."

Penov confirmed that the signing will take place as soon as possible, as the procedure has been initiated and consensus has been reached on the agreement content.

A part of the agreement will be to have each country promote teaching the other country's language. Penov said: "Based on this objective, assistance will be provided in the work of lectureships - to lecturers of Bulgarian language and literature at Charles University in Prague and to lecturers of Czech language at Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski."
