To the sound of the Bulgarian national anthem and 21 gunshots during a ceremony in the Avenida dos Aliandos square in Porto on Tuesday, Bulgarian President Rumen Radev received an official welcome on the second day of his three-day state visit to Portugal by his Portuguese counterpart Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

Radev and the official Bulgarian delegation were welcomed in the Porto City Hall by Mayor Rui Moreira, who presented the keys to the city to the Bulgarian head of State.

In his remarks in the City Hall, President Radev spoke about the need to stay united. "The relations and friendship between Bulgaria and Portugal are deeply symbolic. If two countries situated at the two ends of Europe can cooperate and be friends, or think in the same terms about the future of Europe,e then the entire European family can do that," he said.

Later on Tuesday, the two Presidents will hold a one-on-one meeting, after which they will make a joint statement for the media.

The two countries' delegations will hold plenary talks.

Radev will travel to Lisbon where he is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Antonio Costa and the President of the Assembly of the Republic, Augusto Santos Silva. He will also confer with members of the local Bulgarian community.

This is President Radev's second visit to Portugal.
