Andrey Yankulov has been proposed as caretaker Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice in the draft cabinet of Andrey Gurov. He is a lawyer specializing in criminal law, according to the website of the Anti-Corruption Fund foundation. He was born on August 25, 1980, in Sofia, according to information published on his personal website.
In 1999, he graduated from the 91st German Language High School Prof. Konstantin Galabov, and in 2005 earned a law degree from Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski. After graduation, he worked as in-house legal counsel.
In 2007, Yankulov joined the General Crimes and Other Offences Department of the Sofia District Prosecutor's Office, where from 2010 to 2014 he was a member of the Professional Ethics Commission, and from 2013 to 2014 a member of the National Prosecutorial Network for International Legal Cooperation.
From August 11 to November 7, 2014, Yankulov served as Deputy Minister of Interior, and from November 14, 2014, to February 22, 2016, as Deputy Minister of Justice, responsible for government policy on the execution of penalties.
Between 2016 and September 2017, he worked in the Execution of Penalties Department of the Sofia District Prosecutor’s Office. After a competition, he was promoted to the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office, where he worked in the International and Execution of Penalties Department until the end of 2019, when he resigned as a prosecutor.
Since early 2020, Yankulov has been a lawyer with the Sofia Bar Association. He is a legal adviser to the Anti-Corruption Fund and the consulting company PMG Analytics.
