The January issue of BTA's LIK magazine was presented on Friday in the first Bulgarian chitalishte community centre in Svishtov.
BTA Director General Kiril Valchev emphasized that the community centre was founded on this day 170 years ago, in 1856, and that the magazine's new issue is dedicated to the chitalishte community centres in Bulgaria. "It contains valuable lessons for the present and the future from the past of the community centres, which arise to pass on the experience of the ancestors, which will preserve the Bulgarian people, as well as the experience of other peoples, through which Bulgarians can develop," he said.
The development of Bulgarian community centres is due to the combination of the leadership of enlighteners and the assistance of their benefactors, Valchev specified. He pointed out that the news in the BTA archives, which can be read in the issue, preserve many names of notable Bulgarians who are founders, activists and supporters of community centres across Bulgaria.
"Bulgarians have always had inspiring leaders whose names are part of the history of community centres. And in the coming weeks, when parliamentary elections are again coming up, it is worth thinking about the lessons from these individuals, whose worthy followers we have a hard time finding these days, probably also because of the refusal of many to participate in the elections," Valchev stressed.
He recalled that during the Bulgarian National Revival, over 130 community centres were actively operating across the country thanks to the efforts of wealthier, enlightened and patriotic Bulgarians. Since 2020, BTA has secured the right to free distribution of information not only to a narrow circle of state institutions, but also to civil society through community centres, Valchev pointed out, adding that BTA is planning a new, better organization of its website for systematic publication of news from community centres as well.
