Turkiye is Europe’s fourth-largest market for electric vehicle (EV) sales in 2025, Anadolu Agency reported, citing a report by a London-based international energy analysis agency.

The country secured this position by selling 190,000 electric vehicles, placing it behind Germany, the United Kingdom, and France.

Over the past year, 17% of newly sold vehicles in Turkiye were electric. With these figures, the country for the first time reached a 17% share of electric vehicle sales within the overall European Union market. In 2024, this figure stood at 10%.

Despite the increase in sales, only two percent of vehicles in the country are electric or run on biofuels, the data show.

According to the report, several key factors are driving the purchase of electric vehicles, including the availability of domestically produced EVs, the introduction of new electric models at favourable prices, and the absence of high taxes on these vehicles.

The report also notes that Turkiye has growing potential to expand domestic electric vehicle production and reduce imports of such vehicles.
