site.btaPayment Operations Volume in Bulgaria Up 35% Y/Y to EUR 345.7 Bln in 2025, Infrastructure Operator Says
The total volume of payment operations in Bulgaria expanded by 35% to EUR 345.7 billion in 2025, according to Monday's press release by BORICA AD, the company that provides and operates the technology infrastructure of the country's payment industry.
During the same period, the total number of payment operations grew 12 % to 139.8 million transactions. The average value per payment operation increased by 21%, from EUR 2,051 in 2024 to EUR 2,462 in 2025.
The company singles out instant transfers as the most vigorously growing segment of the bank payments market: up 69% to 38.2 million transfers. Their share in the total number of transfers already stands at 27 %, compared to 18% a year earlier.
The volume of instant transfers soared by as much as 87% to reach EUR 35.3 billion, already accounting for 10% of the value of all bank transfers. Their average value rose by 11%, year on year, on EUR 922.
BORICA identifies a steady upward trend in the share of both the number and volume of instant transfers: ever more individuals and companies expect the provision of secure instant payments as a standard service.
According to data of the National Card and Payment Scheme, 2.7 million blink P2P instant transfers were made in 2025, up 98% from 2024, and their volume of EUR 424 million showed a substantial 125% year-on-year increase. The average value per blink transfer via mobile number reached EUR 154, a 14% growth from the previous year.
