Conditions in the higher parts of the mountains are not suitable for hiking. In the winter mountain resorts, however, there are good conditions for tourists, the Mountain Rescue Service of the Bulgarian Red Cross told BTA on Thursday.

Temperatures in the mountains are below zero, ranging between minus 1 and minus 5 degrees Celsius. It is cloudy and foggy in the higher parts, with moderate to strong winds.

Facilities at the resorts are operating, the Mountain Rescue Service added.

No incidents involving tourists have been reported over the past 24 hours.

According to the weather forecast of the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology, conditions in the mountains will be mostly sunny. The higher elevations will remain within the cloud layer before noon, with fog. A moderate, temporarily strong northwesterly wind will be blowing. The maximum temperature at an altitude of 1,200 metres will be around 6C, and at 2,000 metres around minus 1C.
