Bulgaria’s President Rumen Radev will continue government-forming consultations with representatives of parliamentary groups in the 51st National Assembly on December 18, the head of State’s Press Secretariat said on Wednesday.
The President will first meet the Alliance for Rights and Freedoms and then with Morality, Unity, Honour (MECh).
The consultations follow the resignation of the Cabinet, announced by Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov and unanimously accepted by Parliament last week.
Radev has already held talks with representatives of GERB–UDF, Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria, Vazrazhdane, Movement for Rights and Freedoms - New Beginning, BSP – United Left, and There Is Such a People.
Under the Constitution, after the consultations with the parliamentary groups, the President mandates the largest one to form a government. If the group fails to do so, he mandates the second largest one. If it also fails, the third exploratory mandate goes to a parliamentary group chosen by the President. Failure to form a regular government under the third mandate results in snap parliamentary elections.
