site.btaBulgaria to Join Pan-European Public Procurement Procedure for Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism Platform

The Council of Ministers has approved Bulgaria’s participation in a pan-European public procurement procedure to develop a central platform for implementing the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), the Government Information Service said on Wednesday.

The Mechanism was created to prevent carbon leakage in the production of certain goods. It complements the EU Emissions Trading System and is expected to support the ambitious goals of cutting greenhouse gas emissions and achieving climate neutrality by 2050.

To ensure the CBAM functions effectively, a shared central platform is required. This platform will be used to sell certificates to authorized CBAM declarants and will support the Mechanism's operation.
