Projects under the Ideas for the City 2025 civic budgeting programme show the direction in which Sofia residents are thinking: more green spaces, sport, safety, culture and community, Sofia Mayor Vassil Terziev said in a Facebook post.
Ideas for the City attracted 24,367 votes in 2025, Terziev noted, with more than twice as many Sofia residents taking part compared with last year. In his words, this clearly demonstrates that a growing number of people want to participate directly in decisions concerning Sofia's development.
"Our city develops not only through infrastructure and projects, but through trust, participation and joint efforts. Sofia is becoming a place where every citizen has a voice, and that voice brings real change," the mayor said.
He said 71% of projects proposed by citizens in 2024 had been completed or were under implementation. Renovated parks and sports facilities, safer areas around schools, cultural spaces and green solutions are changing everyday life, Terziev said.
"With citizens' votes, we are set to deliver a further 56 projects in the next 15 months. Sofia is changing through the energy and participation of the people who live in it," the mayor said.
