A representative exhibition from the rich collection of the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, titled Diplomacy and Art, Part II, was presented at the Modern Gallery in the capital of Montenegro, Podgorica. The project was co-organized by the Bulgarian Embassy and the City Gallery (Museums and Galleries) of Podgorica with the support of the State Cultural Institute under the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy said.

The exhibition includes 22 paintings by established Bulgarian artists who worked in the first half of the 20th century: Konstantin Shtarkelov, Denyu Chokanov, Atanas Mihov, Zdravko Alexandrov, Vasil Stoilov, as well as artists who worked in the 1960s, among them Vladimir Manski, Vanya Decheva, Todor Dinov, Boris Nenov, Vladimir Goev. Paintings, mostly landscapes, prevail among their works on display. Newer art trends, of the 1970s and 1980s, are also present in the exhibition, with the characteristic simplification of the artistic image, the Bulgarian Embassy said.

In her welcoming speech to the guests, the Director of Museums and Galleries, Podgorica, Ivana Ćupić, said that art is the most beautiful form of cultural diplomacy, and that culture has immeasurable potential and strongly influences the formation of a country's image.

For his part, Bulgarian Ambassador Stefan Dimitrov said that history, cultural heritage and art are the most direct path to accord, and the interaction between art and diplomacy is an excellent way to ensure dialogue and understanding between different cultures, as well as to promote peace and justice in the world.

Ambassador Dimitrov further stressed that his top priority is friendship between the people of Bulgaria and Montenegro based not only on history and traditions, but also on knowing each other.

More than 60 guests were present, including the Minister of Culture of Montenegro and other senior representatives of Montenegrin institutions, foreign ambassadors and diplomats, and international organizations, business community, as well as cultural figures.
