The Progressive Bulgaria coalition officially launched its national election campaign at the Sila Hall in Plovdiv, presenting the lead candidates on its parliamentary lists. In his address, coalition leader Rumen Radev said that a group of like-minded allies is embarking on “the most important battle of their lives, the battle for Bulgaria.”
“We enter this race with the clear conviction that we know what we want and how to achieve it,” Radev said.
According to him, the political class has succeeded in alienating Bulgarians from the ballot box, while over the years oligarchic interests have crushed the dreams of thousands of entrepreneurs. “Great talents, brilliant minds, bold entrepreneurs, free people increasingly feel that it is becoming harder to realize their ideas in their own country,” he said.
Radev added that cartels are distorting the prices of many goods, leaving people shocked by their bills. “Now is the time for them to remember who took away their right to a referendum,” he said.
“Today, Bulgarians travel freely across Europe, young people study on the continent, and our companies trade tariff-free with EU countries. These are important advantages and must be preserved. But they cannot overshadow the widespread dissatisfaction, the anger over injustice, and the evident impoverishment in recent months,” Radev said.
“The goal is clear, to bring down the oligarchy, reclaim the state, strengthen the rule of law, democracy, and civil liberties, and ensure that there are no poor people in a European Bulgaria,” he added.
