Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov arrived in Copenhagen on Wednesday for the start of an informal European Council meeting. The Prime Minister was personally welcomed by his Danish counterpart, Mette Frederiksen, the government information service said.
The heads of state and government of the European Union (EU) are expected to discuss the EU’s defense readiness and Ukraine in the context of increasing incidents of violations of the airspace of some member states. The focus of the meeting will be accelerating arms deliveries, joint capability acquisitions, support for countries on the Eastern flank, and ensuring effective political oversight and coordination among the states.
A key topic in the leaders’ discussion will also be continued and additional support for Ukraine to achieve a just and lasting peace. Emphasis is expected to be placed on the sustainable and predictable nature of European aid to Ukraine, including support for the country’s armed forces and continued pressure on Russia, including through expanded restrictive measures. Ukraine’s progress on the path to European integration is also expected to be addressed during the meeting, the press office said.
On Thursday in Copenhagen, dozens of European leaders will attend the summit of the so-called European Political Community — a forum aimed at promoting political dialogue and cooperation beyond the 27 EU member states.
