European Council President Antonio Costa told the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly here on late Thursday, Eastern Daylight Time, that the EU will continue to work with all of its partners in a spirit of global solidarity.
Costa said that the EU is a project for peace and social justice, which will remain a staunch defender of multilateralism, of the rules-based international order, and of the Charter of the United Nations. He added that the alternative to global order based on rules is a chaotic world filled with violence. He pointed to Sudan, Ukraine and the Gaza Strip as places that suffer conflicts in the absence of order.
Costa reported that Europe is building a global network of partnerships with Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, the Arab world, Asia and the Pacific region. He stated that there is no Global South or Global North in today's multipolar world.
He promised the assembly that the EU will be a reliable partner that will stand up for peace at a time when multilateralism is under threat.
