As the ECOFIN Council is about to take a final decision on Bulgaria's accession to the eurozone on Tuesday, EU Commissioner for Economy and Productivity Valdis Dombrovskis called it "a historic day" for Bulgaria. "From today's agenda, I will highlight the final decision on Bulgaria's euro accession setting the conversion rate, which is obviously a historical day for Bulgaria, so congratulations on this," he told reporters.

He said it is also a good day for the Eurogroup and the eurozone. "It strengthens and enlarges the eurozone," he added.

Asked if he is confident that the exchange rate will not be changed with today's ECOFIN decision, he said that the ministers normally do not comment the decisions on conversion rate before actually taking these decisions.
