Democracy, Rights and Freedoms (DRF) Floor Leader Dzhevdet Chakarov offered his condolences on the passing of Pope Francis in a Facebook post on Monday. “It is with deep sorrow that we receive the news of Pope Francis’s passing,” he wrote. 

“Our hearts go out to the Catholic community around the world during this difficult time of loss. The Pope was not only a spiritual leader but also a symbol of unity, a moral beacon, and a fearless defender of human dignity. With unfailing faith and compassion, he built bridges across peoples, religions and cultures. He was a voice for peace, justice and the most vulnerable members of society, Chakarov said.

“His spiritual legacy will endure - in the words that inspired, the deeds that changed lives, and the hope that sustained the faith of millions around the world,” the DRF Floor Leader said as quoted by the DRF’s press centre.

The Vatican announced Pope Francis’s passing earlier in the day via a video message.
