Bulgaria's acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov held a series of working meetings at the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) of the United States with a focus on the security challenges stemming from ever more frequent attempts at malicious influence by third countries, particularly the use of cutting-edge internet technologies to rig elections in EU member states and elsewhere, the Prosecution of the Republic of Bulgaria said on Saturday.
Sarafov was meeting with FBI officials for the second time this year after talks in Washington in May.
During this second visit, the sides discussed interaction between the Bulgarian and US law enforcement institutions in investigating a wide range of crimes. They agreed that a delegation of Bulgarian law enforcers led by Sarafov will visit the FBI again in early 2025 to share expertise in combating various types of crimes.
At the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia, Sarafov and FBI Bulgaria Office Head Jordan Loyd were guests at the Academy's 292nd Session graduation ceremony.
Among the Academy trainees is Georgi Trenchev, an investigator at the Sofia City Prosecution Office, whose stint was agreed during Sarafov's previous visit in May.
In September in Sofia, Sarafov met with US legal experts Dr. Kevin Carroll and Dr. Remy Gerbay to discuss the possibility for anti-corruption training of Bulgarian prosecutors, investigators and financial intelligence officers.
