The Ukrainian city of Izmail, on the Danube, has come under a major drone attack, the Izmail District State Administration said on Facebook.

Regional authorities have urged residents to seek refuge in bomb shelters.

Local Telegram channels reported that more than 20 drones had approached Izmail from the Black Sea, and loud explosions were heard across the city. Air raid alerts were sounded at 11 p.m. on Sunday.

Bulgarians in the Odesa region number more than 150,000 and are the third largest population group in Ukraine, according to an official population census in 2001. There are between 50,000 and 60,000 Bulgarians in the city of Odesa. Bulgarians in the region are concentrated in the districts of Bolhrad, Izmail and Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi.
