Bulgarian athletes won two medals at the European Savate (French boxing) Championship in the assaut style for men and women, in the Austrian city of Weiz.
Yordan Yordanov claimed a silver medal in the under-75 kg category after a very closely contested final, where he lost to France’s Iden Garcia. Yordanov had previously earned a bronze medal in the combat style at the U-21 World Championship in Plovdiv this July, and last year he became European champion in the assaut style for boys under 18.
Gabriela Tsenkova secured a bronze medal in the under-65 kg category. She reached the semifinals, where she was defeated by the world champion Fanny Serena (France), who went on to win the title. The 19-year-old Tsenkova is the world vice-champion in the combat style for juniors under 21 from Plovdiv 2025.
Savate (French boxing) combines punches and kicks, with athletes using special gear including gloves and shoes, and are allowed to strike only with them. Kicks with knees and elbows are strictly prohibited.
