site.btaBulgaria Loses to European Champions Spain 0:3 in World Cup Qualifier

Bulgaria suffered a 0:3 defeat to reigning European champions Spain in their opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Spain secured the victory with three first-half goals and left little doubt about their superiority throughout the 90 minutes.
Bulgaria hosted Spain in the teams’ first Group E match of the UEFA qualifiers for the FIFA 2026 World Cup.
After the break, the Spanish football team slowed the tempo, giving the Bulgarians several promising opportunities, but the home side failed to capitalize on them. Bulgaria played without their current star player and team captain, Kiril Despodov.
The second round of Group E matches will take place on Sunday. Bulgaria will visit Georgia, who lost 2:3 to Turkiye earlier in the day, while Spain will travel to Konya for a clash with Turkiye.
