Mountain hiking conditions are good, with sunshine, scattered cloud cover and light wind in the higher parts, the Mountain Rescue Service (MRS) with the Bulgarian Red Cross told BTA on Wednesday.
Temperatures are lower: 7-8C on Mount Botev and 11-12C at the resorts. MRS warned that a colder front passed over the massifs on Tuesday.
Rescue teams from Karlovo and Kalofer are searching for a Romanian tourist missing near Mount Botev, the service said. The alert was filed on Tuesday night; Karlovo rescuers began the operation then, which resumed on Wednesday morning with the Kalofer unit joining.
In the mountains, conditions will be mostly sunny with occasional periods of increased cloudiness, according to the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology. In the afternoon, isolated light rain is expected in the Rila-Rhodope area, as well as in the central and eastern sections of the Stara Planina range and Strandzha. A moderate to strong west-northwesterly wind is forecast, with the strongest gusts over the highest elevations. Highs: 22C at 1,200 m, 15C at 2,000 m.
