site.btaBulgarian Ski Federation President: Bulgarian Snowboarding Has Reached Highest Level
The President of the Bulgarian Ski Federation, Tseko Minev, said he was extremely pleased with the performance of the Bulgarian snowboarders at the World Cup in Bansko on January 17-18.
On Sunday, Bulgaria recorded a historic success as Tervel Zamfirov and Radoslav Yankov finished first and third, respectively, in the men’s parallel giant slalom.
"First of all, I want to say that in the history of Bulgarian winter sports at World Cup level, there has never been a case of two Bulgarians standing on the podium, and with a victory at that. This is happening for the first time, and in itself it is something phenomenal. It shows everyone that Bulgarian snowboarding has grown to the very highest level. A bow to all the athletes and coaches. This will remain in history. I think that ahead of the Olympics, this is a very strong achievement," Minev said.
"The successes of Bulgarian snowboarding come with positivity, faith, and desire. I would also like to thank all sponsors, including the Ministry of Youth and Sport. When Radoslav Yankov made his big breakthrough, we created a programme for working with children. You can see where that has led. Others are coming through as well, slightly younger, but eager to develop. And as for Malena Zamfirova, this is something unique. I do not think there is another 16-year-old athlete competing at the very top of the world elite," Minev added.
