Over 1,500 participants will take part in the Burgas Marathon on November 9, the organizers said on Tuesday.
They emphasized that after the first Burgas Half Marathon was held in 2024, interest in the event doubled, which is why this year they decided to offer participants two new distances, namely the race of 5 kilometres and the classic marathon race of 42.195 kilometres.
In the men's marathon, Sofia Marathon silver medalist Abraham Kiplimo will start alongside Zagreb Marathon winner Kosmas Kogen. In the women's race, Sofia Marathon bronze medalist Beatrice Sang, Linz Marathon winner Lina Kaino and Zagreb Half Marathon winner Dorcas Kitome are expected to race for the win. Sofia Half Marathon champion Kennedy Rono and Krakow Marathon winner Benard Tu will take part in the men's Half Marathon race, while three athletes from Kenya will likely challenge for the women's half marathon title in Burgas, namely Sofia and Bucharest Half Marathon champion Jacinta Pole, Sofia Half Marathon runner-up Mercy Koech, and Krakow Marathon winner Rose Chepchumba.
A total of BGN 22,000 of prize money will be distributed by the Burgas Municipality and the Sport in Leisure Time Association, who are organizing the marathon.
