site.btaGDP per Person Employed Decreases by 0.2% in Q2 of 2025, Y/Y
Bulgaria's real gross domestic product (GDP) per employee decreased by 0.2% in the second quarter of 2025 compared to the same quarter of the previous year, show preliminary data from the National Statistical Institute published here on Friday. In the second quarter of 2024, GDP per employee grew by 0.6% on an annual basis, also according to preliminary data.
In the second quarter of 2025, there were 3,714,400 people employed in the economy, and the total number of hours worked was around 1.45 billion. The structure of employment by economic sector in the second quarter of 2025 compared to the corresponding quarter of 2024 shows an increase in the relative share of the service sector and a decrease in the relative share of the agricultural and industrial sectors.
Each employed person accounts for BGN 14,098 of the current GDP, with each employed person generating an average of BGN 36.1 GDP per hour worked.
The gross value added (GVA) per employee in the second quarter of 2025 decreased by 1.9% compared to the second quarter of 2024, while the real GVA per hour worked decreased by 0.3%.
According to preliminary data, in the second quarter of 2025, the level of labour productivity in the services sector amounted to BGN 12,472. The average GVA per employed person was BGN 31.4 per hour worked. In the industrial sector, each employed person produced an average of BGN 14,472 GDP, with an average of BGN 36 of the current volume of the indicator being generated per man-hour worked. Labour productivity was lowest in the agricultural sector - BGN 2,435 GDP per employee and BGN 7.2 per man-hour worked.
