A delegation led by Energy Minister Zhecho Stankov has departed for a working visit to the US. The program includes meetings at the U.S. Department of Energy and the State Department. In Washington, Minister Stankov is scheduled to hold talks with members of the U.S. House of Representatives and advisors to the White House National Security Council, the Ministry’s press centre reported.
The visit continues the framework of the intergovernmental agreement between Bulgaria and the US on cooperation to build a new nuclear power unit at the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant site. Progress on this strategically important project for Bulgaria and the challenges related to energy security will be central topics of discussion.
Given the extensive modernization currently underway in Bulgaria’s energy sector, Minister Stankov will also explore investment opportunities with representatives from banking institutions, as well as energy and technology companies.
The delegation includes Delyan Dobrev, chair of the parliamentary budget committee; Stanislav Anastasov, member of the parliamentary energy committee; Petyo Ivanov, Executive Director of Kozloduy NPP – New Builds; Angelin Tsachev, Executive Director of the Electricity System Operator; and Vasil Stoynov, Chairman and member of the Board of Directors of the Bulgarian Energy Holding.
