Bulgaria’s best-ever placing by a ski jumper in a Four Hills Tournament event in Garmisch-Partenkirchen was matched by ski jumper Vladimir Zografski on Thursday, as he finished 14th. Zografski equalled the result set by fellow Samokov native Vladimir Breitchev on New Year’s Day in 1988.
Zografski jumped 131 and 132 metres for a total of 251.8 points. He won his first-round head-to-head against Japan’s Naoki Nakamura by just 0.3 points, but Nakamura also went through to the final round as one of five lucky losers. In the end, Zografski finished 0.1 points ahead of Nakamura, though more important for him was that he dropped three places compared with his first-round ranking.
Slovenia’s Domen Prevc won the event and picked up a 10th straight Ski Jumping World Cup podium finish. After winning in Oberstdorf a few days earlier, Prevc also came out on top in Garmisch with jumps of 143 and 141 metres for a total of 303.1 points.
Austrian Jan Horl took second on 287.7 points after jumps of 141 and 131.5 metres. His compatriot Stephan Embacher finished third on 287.1 points with jumps of 134 and 141.5 metres.
Japan’s Ren Nikaido and Ryoyu Kobayashi, along with Germany’s Felix Hoffmann, completed the top six.
