The Total Producer Price Index went up by 7.1% in May 2025 compared to the same month in 2024, according to National Statistical Institute data released on Monday. Year-on-year increases were recorded in several sectors: 22.5% in mining and quarrying, 16.4% in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply, and 7.6% in manufacturing.
Within manufacturing, prices grew by 19.6% for food products, 15.5% for basic metals, 13.6% for textiles, and 13.4% for beverages. Price declines were registered in the manufacture of tobacco products (15.7%) and in the manufacture of furniture (10.0%).
On a monthly basis, the Total Producer Price Index fell by 2.1%.
Producer Price Indices reflect the average change in prices of industrial products produced and sold by Bulgarian enterprises. They can be considered an early measure of the current inflation process in the economy and can be used for international comparisons.
In May, the Producer Price Index on the Domestic Market decreased by 3.6% compared to April and recorded a 7.9% increase year-on-year. The Producer Price Index on the Non-domestic Market rose by 0.2% in May 2025 compared to the previous month and by 6.1% in comparison with May 2024.
