Bulgarian Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov and Turkish Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu discussed the development of transport links between the two countries, the Government's press centre said on Wednesday. They identified joint actions for even more fruitful cooperation.

At the beginning of the talks Zhelyazkov and Uraloglu underlined the excellent bilateral relations in a number of sectors. The Bulgarian Prime Minister stressed the importance of the partnership with Turkiye for the security of Europe and the protection of the European Union's external border.

Zhelyazkov presented to the Turkish Minister the plans for the development of transport connectivity in the different regions of the country. The need to continue bilateral efforts to ease the procedures for expanding the capacity of border crossing points between the two countries in view of the heavy traffic and the formation of queues of trucks waiting for processing was stressed. Possible alternative routes to increase and facilitate transit freight and passenger traffic were also considered. Actions on the expansion of the Kapitan Andreevo border crossing point were also discussed.

The development of regional connectivity along the North-South axis was also a focus of the meeting at the Council of Ministers. The importance of building the Black Sea Highway to connect Bulgaria with Turkiye and Romania and to link with other key road arteries such as Hemus and Trakia Motorways was also highlighted as an alternative to ease traffic.

Earlier on Wednesday Abdulkadir Uraloglu met with GERB leader Boyko Borissov.
