Bulgaria has a budget of BGN 6.5 billion under the Regional Development Programme for the 2021–2027 period in support of sustainable regional development, said Regional Development and Public Works Minister Ivan Ivanov on Wednesday. He was speaking during the Green Transition Forum 5.0: Powering Up Competitiveness and Innovation in the Central and Eastern European Region, held in Sofia.
The funding, provided through the European Regional Development Fund and the Just Transition Fund, will support some of the largest municipal investments to date, aimed at advancing the country’s green transition, Ivanov noted.
"Our task is to create the necessary conditions for economic growth that does not deplete natural resources, reduces the carbon footprint, and improves quality of life and opportunities for all, both in large cities and small towns, because the goal is equality for everyone," the Minister said.
He emphasized that sustainability is at the core of regional development policies, integrating economic, environmental, and social dimensions.
Through EU instruments, including the Cohesion Policy and the Just Transition Mechanism, the Ministry supports projects promoting energy efficiency, green infrastructure, innovation, and digitalization, the Minister added.
