MPs are set to debate at second reading amendments to the Bar Act allowing lawyers to advertise, the National Assembly’s work programme shows on Friday. The Legal Affairs Committee backs wording letting lawyers contact potential clients directly or via intermediaries, as long as advertising respects confidentiality, integrity and the profession’s dignity.
A lawyer has the right to advertise their professional services and may approach potential clients directly or through an intermediary, provided they comply with applicable law and the lawyers’ code of ethics, according to the Legal Affairs Committee. The advertising message must comply with the principles of confidentiality, integrity, and the protection of the dignity of the legal profession.
When promoting their services, a lawyer must not use false or misleading information, including statements about the amount of legal fees or the availability of free legal aid and assistance.
The agenda also includes a draft Parliament’s Annual Work Programme for 2026.
During Question Time in the National Assembly, outgoing Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov and outgoing ministers Marian Bachev, Zhecho Stankov, and Atanas Zapryanov will answer MPs’ questions and inquiries.
