The cultural heritage of Bulgaria and Turkiye goes beyond physical artefacts, it encompasses spirit, literature, art, and national identity, said Culture Minister Marian Bachev Monday, during the forum Diplomacy of Wonders – The Most Ancient Wonders of Bulgaria and Turkiye. The event was organized by the Embassy of Turkiye and Europa Nostra – Bulgaria.
“I believe that events like this can shape the future, a future of peace, wisdom, and mutual respect between nations," Bachev said.
"It is often said that when politics fails, culture takes the lead. Whether this is true, I will leave to the politicians to decide. But as a person of the arts, I deeply believe that culture opens doors and builds bridges. It helps us not only to get to know the other, but to truly understand them. To step into their world, as they step into ours. Today’s event is a clear testament to that. The exhibition, the artefacts, the digital manuscripts, the music, the dance – everything here conveys a message," the Minister emphasized.
He highlighted the work of two distinguished scholars and archeologists, Acad. Vasil Nikolov from Bulgaria and Prof. Necmi Karul from Turkiye, as a powerful example of how culture can unite. “Their collaboration goes beyond uncovering the ancient past, it forges meaningful connections across borders. Through their shared mission, they have not only acquired advanced knowledge but also built a lasting friendship. The sites they study, dating back 9,000, 10,000, even 12,000 years, serve as a reminder that we inhabit common ground, share a collective memory, and bear a shared responsibility,” Bachev noted.
In an age defined by technological advancement and global tensions, culture remains a living, human force capable of forging lasting friendships, the Minister noted.
