site.btaBulgaria Rises to Forefront in AI Research with INSAIT Achievements

Researchers from the Institute for Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Technology (INSAIT) at Sofia University St Kliment Ohridski achieved a remarkable success for Bulgaria with seven papers accepted at the leading global artificial intelligence conference, CVPR 2025, held in Nashville, United States, Sofia University’s press service said here on Monday.
The event places Bulgaria ahead of many European countries in terms of accepted scientific articles and puts INSAIT and Sofia University alongside world-renowned institutions.
With this result, Bulgaria exceeds many European countries in the number of accepted papers, including Poland, Ireland, Portugal, Hungary, Russia, and Croatia. Additionally, INSAIT and Sofia University achieve results comparable to leading universities such as Caltech, King’s College London, Technion (Israel), and other prominent academic institutions.
CVPR (Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition) is the second most cited scientific conference globally, spanning all scientific disciplines, not just artificial intelligence. This year, the acceptance rate was particularly low, with only 22.1% of submitted papers accepted for publication.
With over 9,000 participants—including scientists, researchers, and representatives from leading technology companies across more than 70 countries—CVPR is one of the premier global forums for innovation and scientific advancement in artificial intelligence.
This achievement establishes INSAIT as a leading global research centre in artificial intelligence and computer science, according to Sofia University.
INSAIT—the Institute for Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Technology in Sofia, Bulgaria—is the first institution in Eastern Europe to provide research conditions comparable to those at leading Western universities and institutes. As a dedicated department within Sofia University St Kliment Ohridski, INSAIT was founded in collaboration with ETH Zurich and EPFL, two top-ranked Swiss technology universities. The institute is led and advised by prominent scientists from leading American, European, and Israeli universities and research centers. INSAIT focuses on scientific excellence, conducting world-class research, attracting highly qualified international researchers, and educating the next generation of students and technology leaders.
