site.btaBank Accounts in BGN to Be Automatically Converted to EUR upon Eurozone Entry Free of Charge - Bank Association

The balances on all bank accounts in BGN will be automatically converted to EUR from the date of the country's accession to the euro area at the officially announced exchange rate. That will be done free of charge, the Association of Banks in Bulgaria (ABB) told BTA.
On Wednesday, the European Commission and the European Central Bank gave positive assessments of Bulgaria's readiness to become a member of the eurozone on January 1, 2026.
Each bank will duly inform its customers about the terms and conditions under which their accounts will be converted. Most banks now have useful questions and answers sections on their websites. One is also available on the websites of the ABB, the Bulgarian National Bank, and the specialised website evroto.bg. If citizens have further questions related to the topic, they can contact their servicing bank for more detailed information, the ABB said.
Banks in Bulgaria are fully prepared for the dual display of prices in BGN and EUR. This is an important step towards the successful introduction of the euro and will contribute to an easier adaptation of citizens to the new currency. Some of them have even already implemented it - in documents such as statements, reports and fees, the amounts are now written in both currencies at the same time, the ABB added.
For the most up-to-date information on any particular bank, citizens can visit its official website or contact it directly. The period of mandatory dual display of prices will start one month after the date of entry into force of the decision on the adoption of the euro and will last 12 months after the date of introduction of the euro in Bulgaria, the ABB told BTA.
