The parliamentary Energy Committee Thursday approved a draft amendment to the Energy Act, which foresees an indefinite postponement of the liberalization of the electricity market for household customers. The liberalization will be tied to future reports by the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC) on the country's readiness for household customers to enter the free electricity market.
Energy Committee Chair Pavela Mitova told BTA: "We have agreed to postpone the liberalization indefinitely. The report on the proposed amendment was approved as a whole, without voting on individual paragraphs. She said the draft amendment was drawn up by a working group.
The Energy Committee approved a position from the EVN electricity distribution company proposing a change to one of the paragraphs related to compensations and market development. The EWRC has backed the proposal, which will be included in the final report.
