site.btaBulgaria Ranks Fourth in EU in Annual GDP Flash Estimates for Q1 of 2025


In the first quarter of 2025, seasonally adjusted gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 0.3% in both the euro area and the EU, compared with the previous quarter, according to a flash estimate published by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union on Thursday.
In the fourth quarter of 2024, GDP had increased by 0.2% in the euro area and by 0.4% in the EU.
Bulgaria ranks fourth among the EU countries for which data is available in terms of GDP growth in the first quarter of 2025 (3.1%) compared to a year earlier. According to Eurostat, Ireland is the leading EU country in this indicator with an annual GDP growth of 10.9%, followed by Poland (3.8%) and Lithuania (3.2%).
A decrease in GDP in the first quarter was registered on an annual basis in four of the EU countries for which data is available. This sign of economic recession is most clearly expressed in Slovenia (-0.8%), followed by Austria (-0.7%) and Hungary (-0.4%).
The biggest economy in the European Union - Germany, also recorded a decrease in its GDP in the first quarter of 2025 (-0.2%).
Bulgaria's GDP in the first quarter of the year increased by 0.6% compared to the previous quarter, according to the seasonally adjusted Eurostat data. In the fourth quarter of last year, Bulgaria's GDP grew by 0.9% compared to the previous quarter.
