All farmers whose crops have been damaged by frost in early April will receive state aid, Agriculture and Food Minister Georgi Tahov said on Tuesday, as quoted by his Ministry. He was speaking at a forum titled New Opportunities and Challenges for the Bulgarian Agricultural Sector, part of the "Yes! To Bulgarian Food" national campaign.
"Farmers must comply with the regulatory requirements and submit applications for compensation under the state aid scheme. Support will be available not only for fruit and vegetable producers, but also for grain growers if crop damage is found," Tahov explained.
In this context, the Agriculture Minister recalled that the Ministry is working on establishing a Mutual Support Fund to provide additional compensation for farmers in managing agricultural risks. Starting in 2025, 1.5% of all direct payments from the funds allocated under the 2025 Campaign will be withheld for this purpose. "It is important to note that a key condition for receiving compensation from the Mutual Support Fund will be having an active insurance policy for the production, signed with an insurance company," Tahov warned.
