Bulgaria Air has signed a second codeshare destination agreement with Iberia. The two airlines are expanding their cooperation on the Sofia - Barcelona - Sofia route after many years of operating flights between Sofia and Madrid, Bulgaria Air said. 

In early May 2023, Bulgaria Air signed an agreement with Iberia to include Barcelona as a second codeshare destination. All flights on the route will be operated by Bulgaria's national carrier and the Spanish airline will issue tickets for both legs on its own letterhead. 

Apart from being the destination, Barcelona is also a convenient transfer point for passengers of the national carrier who wish to visit some of the most attractive destinations on the Iberian Peninsula - Porto, Bilbao, the islands of Menorca and Ibiza and many others. 

Flights on the Sofia-Barcelona-Sofia route will operate throughout the summer season, which ends on October 28. The timetable includes two weekly services - Tuesdays and Saturdays - allowing for a week's holiday or a short getaway.

The lowest price for a one-way trip to Barcelona is EUR 95 in economy class and includes hand luggage up to 10 kg, a handbag or laptop, free catering on board, as well as free check-in 24 hours before the flight, informs Bulgaria Air.

Last month, the national carrier Bulgaria Air entered into a SPA agreement (Special Prorate Agreement) with the Spanish airline Air Europa, thanks to which passengers can purchase just one ticket for the entire trip between Sofia and the interior of Spain or Portugal, taking advantage of more attractive prices compared to the option of a separate ticket for each of the carriers.
